Knjaževac - Little Venice in eastern Serbia.

Baranica is a natural swimming pool, a favorite of the locals. It is located on the right bank of Trgoviški Timok, in the gorge of the river itself, 5 km from the town. It is located near the road Knjaževac – Pirot, so it is a frequent stop for travelers to take a break. Baranica is extremely tempting for anglers and “creative” swimmers who would try their hand at water games.

The Baranica beach is most visited during the holidays, in the spring and summer.

Baranica is also known as a Paleolithic station. A larger ditch on Bаrаnica is raised high above the river, it is located on the right bank of Trgoviški Timok, about 100 m above the river. The cave has two entrances, one on the east and the other on the south. The base of this cave habitat is quite fragmented and consists of three rooms: a semicircular lobby from which to the north and west there are corridors leading to one smaller room and one larger room. During the arheological excavations, by the Knjаževаc Town Museum and the Faculty of Philosophy from Belgrade, flint atrifacts as well as various bone material were registered in the cultural layers of the cave. The found flint tools belong to the Late Paleolithic cultural complex.
